So what does everyone think of this? I don't think many people will miss the 3D effect, but the system just looks plain awkward. It's also been reported to have "worse battery life [than the XL], with mono speakers and screens the size of the original 3DS", so the cons to the system seem to be abundant. It is, however, lighter than the XL. Whether the battery life will be greater or if it will be lighter than the original 3DS remains to be seen.The newest member of the Nintendo 3DS family is designed specifically for anyone looking for a more affordable entry point into the world of Nintendo hand-held video games. Nintendo 2DS will be available in Red or Blue on Oct. 12 at a suggested retail price of $129.99.
Nintendo 2DS plays the entire library of packaged and downloadable games for Nintendo 3DS only in 2D. The system features a distinctive fixed, slate-type form factor, and optional carrying cases will be available in Red or Blue at launch at a suggested retail price of $12.99. Nintendo 2DS maintains many of the same hardware features as Nintendo 3DS: dual screens, game-play controls and touch-screen features. The system also has backward compatibility with the existing library of more than 2,000 Nintendo DS games, as well as access to wireless connectivity features like multiplayer online game play, fun Nintendo Video content and great digitally delivered games in the Nintendo eShop. It's target demographic is families with kids it'll sell well within the demographic other than that it's pretty lame.

Well, seeing as I'm going for the cheapest price for a system that can play 3DS games, I may invest in one. Or I could wait for enough to buy a 3DS.

Considering that the 2DS is 50$ cheaper than the normal 3DS, you can use that extra money to secure yourself X/Y. So considering that, it's not the worst investment if you're keen on saving.

It doesn't seem to be able to close, so I'm wondering if there's going to be a way to put it in standby or w/e to save battery without turning it off. =/

I looked at the website link to view th picture of it and to be honest It looks boring at it does look a bit like the wiiU (that's my opinion) . I only new about it when I read this post on here. The only people who will be interested in it are kids. I'm still waiting to get the actual 3DS.

I think they were going for a solid, tablet look so that it would be tough to break. Lol. I remember the original DS phats. I gave mine to a friend who ended up wearing it down until its demise. Except for one caveat. I had it for four years, he had it for three. The system lasted seven fucking years. I have a used DSi that neither of the triggers are working on. The DSi was conceptualized seven years ago.

I still have my DSi XL working just fine. All my previous DS lites, and my brick have had their hinges done for. Which is why I can see the reasoning behind no clamshell design for the 2DS. I've been able to keep my recent things in shape though, so don't make fun of me! :c

Well the triggers on the DS DSlite and DSi even the 3DS have been known problems due to dust getting inbetween the trigger and the switches. So it sounds about right that your triggers have gone.

My hinges have broken a lot as well. Not really so much on the phats. But the DS Lite has a manufacturing fault where the hinge on the right over by the light snaps within a few years of having it. Eventually, it causes the "snap-down" locking function and the top screen itself to stop working.Awakening wrote:I still have my DSi XL working just fine. Oh my! My silver DS lite's right hinge has completely broken off so there's the wire that keep that connects it is visible from the left, being the only thing keeping it the top screen from coming off completely. Oddly enough, the top screen still works. Though it's probably because I don't put much use to it anymore for pretty obvious reasons.
