Genesect Event

We've all waited for it...Or dreaded it. But we knew it was going to happen...

Like it or not, the Nintendogods have unleashed the mighty Genesect into the world of competitive battling! Legal for the first time, Genesect could be a mighty force to reckon with in OU. Or he couldn't. Known as one of the premier scarfers in DW, Genesect's amazing typing and awesome mixed attacking stats set him apart as a superb choicer.

Ability - Download (raises attack or special attack on switch in)

Stats - 71 HP / 120 Atk / 95 Def / 120 SpA / 95 SpD / 99 Spe

Discuss Genesect's impact in OU, and possible movesets/roles in competitive battling!

Coverage, a free potential Sp. Atk boost, and being a good scarfer will make him OU. No question about it.

My favorite thing about Genesect is that he can counter the counter to steel types. (Magnezone)

"free" softboiled means that you are now facing one of Genesect's teammates, one of which is likely specifically made to counter blissey. That free softboiled has you looking down the barrel of Lucario's CC when genesect U-turns out.

Genesect can't be walled because it can just U-Turn out into a counter. With Genesects amazing coverage, anything that Genesect can't hurt easily can be U-Turned into something that can hurt it. (Heatran, Blissey, etc.)

Even with the lowered usage of Conkeldurr, having a fighting type or something that can physically hit Normals for 2x today is a given on almost any team.

I didn't say for the whole team to be made to counter bliss. Just that one pokemon, say terrakion/lucario/other fighting type.

Genesect might get banned, on second thought. He's essentially uncounterable. The only thing that will work is revengekilling, and even then, the genesect user could simply predict the fire move and switch to a flash fire user/resistor and lol as you are forced to switch again (noting unboosted really outruns the scarf set).

It definitely doesn't need to be banned. I used it myself in DW, and what Kor said is right, Heatran walls it. Because it's going to be Scarfed 99% of the time, it will have nice speed if the opponent isn't scarfed and awesome special attack (especially if it gets the right DL), but the cost of being locked into one move is incredibly detrimental. Not to mention it's very predictable since only one set with maybe one or two variations really works for it. Just switch in predicting the appropriate SE attack, and you've got at least one free turn to do whatever you want. Most of the time people won't be ballsy or smart enough to predict the switch ahead of time and hit the new switched in Pokemon with a different move for SE, but even if they do, you can just bring in something to resist it and you're at the same situation.

The only time that wouldn't happen is if you used U-Turn before getting locked into something, which won't happen most of the time since most people will just go for a kill. Plus it's not always safe to U-Turn anyway.

Chandy's 2hko'd by Tbolt. Although he's walled by heatran, he can just switch out and come back later.

To be fair I think the easiest way to beat a Genesect is to force it out on a Heatran and force residual damage.

I think the best way to deal with it is in a revenge-kill. Use fast scarfers able to 0hko it, and use SR.
