Interactive Story: Collapse
Backstory
In a land, torn by war, a deep fissure separates those of the Light from those of the Dark. Both sides are weakening and nearing collapse as their eternal war seemingly approaches a stalemate. This is an extremely difficult time for both factions, and as the citizens watch the world crumble around them, they wonder what will happen to them. How will the children grow? Who will lead them to salvation?
The people of the windblown deserts of Khur cry for war and violence, while the people of the lush forests of Malin are desperate for peace. The Dragon’s Teeth separate the landscapes accordingly, and the people inhabiting them are forced to act as mediators, protecting the capitols in a natural ring. A wide range of grasslands and prairies hosts those capitols of both Light and Dark. Scourges plague the lands surrounding the Necropolis, the throne of the Dark Lord, attempting to widen their icy reach. The Pavilion opposes this with holy fighters seeking vengeance and retribution against all that is evil. The Aero Bourne inhabit the sky’s islands, and watch from their capitol, Aerie, with a sad realization that those they had cohabitated with for so long are going to destroy themselves. And, of course, you are caught in the middle.
Goal
Rules
Each person accepted into the interactive story will create their own character. You must send a personal message to me in order to have a chance at being accepted into the interactive story. I would like to stress that good grammar is a MUST. I am going to get rather annoyed if all of the sudden I’m stuck reading custom responses along the lines of “uuuh, cn i plz hav sum cak?” Please note that unless it is blatantly obvious that it is a joke, I will organize a death for you in the next 5 turns. (:So, the basic ground rules are:
1. Proper grammar.
2. Custom Responses must be within common sense’s range of thought. If you’re fighting another player and decide that you want to go eat some cake, too bad. Cake can wait.
3. You must PM me asking if you can play.
4. 8 members will be accepted.
5. I have the right to deny any and all players I choose too.
Follow those rules, and I’ll be happy!
*Note* I will try to keep an update Schedule on Tuesdays and Thursdays as a bare minimum. I may incorporate a choice-to-reward system at some point or another.
Character Creation
The game operates off a level system. The first class has a level cap of 20, but can be promoted at level 15. Characters promotion will have a different requirement depending on the class. Learning skills and getting into fights more will increase your chances of promotion. There are also items in the game that allow instant promotion. A stat system will be in effect. The five stats (Strength [Magic], Agility [Potency], Armor, Resiliance, and Stamina), will effect how strong your character is, how much damage he can take, and so on. Please note that purely offensive characters will not be entirely viable, as certain fights and encounters will require somebody to sponge damage and interrupt the NPCs attacks and spells.
Personalities
Every personality will affect how your character fights, feels, talks, and acts. People with a more aggressive personalities may get into fights more, whereas people who are more composed may gather more allies. The choice is yours.
-Aggressive
-Passive
-Steadfast
-Cheerful
-
-Depressed
-Composed
-Calm
-Compassionate
-Cynical
-Insane
Seems like it won't let me cross out insane, but both slots are taken.
Each personality makes your character different, so choose carefully!
*Note* A personality may be used no more than twice.
Affinities
Affinities are what will make your character use different types of spells and actions later in the game. They often play a large role in how your character acts. It pays off to pair a character’s affinities and personality. There are Primary and Secondary affinities. The choice is yours.
Primary:
~Light~ - This affinity, while representing Holy power, can often be misconstrued as something strictly dedicated to healers and people who are righteous. However, people of the Light are filled with pride, often becoming extremely annoyed, even vengeful, should they be bested. While nobody likes to lose, the Light take loss as an insult, and will do anything to best those they lost too.
~Dark~- The Dark is commonly known for being evil. While this may be true to some, it is completely wrong to others. Many find the Dark warm and accepting, even tolerant. This being said, the people of the Dark are more commonly deceitful, and are known to use people to their fullest extent. While all may be good and well to those unaware of being controlled, those who are aware are exiled. Even from the Dark.
Secondary:
-Fire
-Earth
-Water
-Lighting
-
-Wind
-Light
-Dark
*Note* Each Secondary Affinity will be available for only two people per affinity.
Classes
While every class has advantages and disadvantages, it is your choice on what exactly those advantages are. Each class will be able to use a variety of weapons, and there will be 3 of each type. To get far in this game, one must make alliances. Even if you have max Strength, you are still just a glass cannon. For you to be successful, you’ll need somebody to intervene and sponge damage. Perhaps even somebody to heal you both. The classes for Light and Dark differ, as do the promoted classes, which will not be listed. The choice is yours. ~Light~
Physical Attackers:Private – Fighter/Tank, Melee, non-mounted
Privates are balanced Melee fighters, known for their devotion and skill. They are often known as some of the stronger units physically and defensively, but lack in their resilience to magic.
Useable Weapons: Maces, Swords, Axe, Spears, Shields
Armor Class: ClothàLeatheràMail
Tributes – Fighter, Melee, non-mounted
Tributes are the damage dealers of the light side. They are known to utilize stealth, but start off weaker than most other classes. Their promotions benefit them greatly, often giving them better skills and passives.
Usable Weapons: Daggers, Swords (one handed)
Armor Class: ClothàLeather
Archer/Pistolman – Fighter, Ranged, non-mounted
The only physical ranged class, Archers and Pistolman are both capable of dealing large amounts of damage, when at a range. However, they suffer up close, and often have to rely on dodging attacks rather than tanking them.
Usable Weapons: Bows, Pistols, Daggers
Armor Class: ClothàLeather
Magic Users:
Mage – Bruiser/Tank, Ranged, non-mounted
Mages are typically trained in elemental magic, such as Fire, Water, and Earth. They are commonly more frail, but can gain abilities later to remedy this. They are typically high damage dealers in short bursts.
Usable Weapons: Staves, Daggers, Tomes (Fire, Water, Earth, Electric, Wind)
Armor Class: Cloth
Divinites – Bruiser/Healer/Tank, Ranged, non-mounted
Like the mage, divinites are often rather squishy. They can become tanks through skills later in the game, as well as healers. What differentiates them is their magic type. Divinites can use both Light and Dark magic, as well as several others post-promotion.
Usable Weapons: Staves, Daggers, Maces, Tomes (Light, Dark)
Armor Class: Cloth
Alamites – Bruiser, Melee, non-mounted
Unlike both other magic classes, alamites are confined to the melee range. Their skills require a weapon, in which they imbue magic before striking a target. They attack fast, but can only imbue magic every now and again. They, like some promoted classes, utilize both the strength and magic stat, making them rather versatile.
Usable Weapons: Maces, Daggers, Swords
Armor Class: ClothàLeather
~Dark~
Physical Units:Mercenary – Fighter/Tank, Melee, non-mounted
Mercenaries are the Private’s dark counterparts. They are the more armored of the Melee units, and often find themselves serving a tank or damage role.
Usable Weapons: Daggers, Swords, Maces, Polearms (damage only), Shield
Armor Class: ClothàLeatheràMail
Vagrants – Fighter, Melee, non-mounted
Vagrants are potentially the weakest starting unit, if built wrong. The benefit massively from Agility, and are commonly on of the lower damage dealers pre-promotion.
Usable Weapons: Daggers, Rapiers
Armor Class: ClothàLeather
Hunter/Gunslinger – Fighter, Ranged, non-mounted
Hunters and gunslingers are the physical ranged unit. They are commonly more based on damage, and often find themselves dealing the most consistant damage.
Usable Weapons: Bows, Pistols, Daggers, Rapiers
Armor Class: ClothàLeather
Magic Units
Cultist – Bruiser/Tank, Ranged, non-mounted
The equivalent to the mage from the Dark. They have a tendency to be more reckless, but often do more damage than Mages. They occasionally hurt themselves from casting.
Usable Weapons: Staves, Daggers, Tomes (Fire, Water, Earth, Lightning, Wind)
Armor Class: Cloth
Shaman – Bruiser/Tank/Healer, Ranged, non-mounted
Shaman’s heal their companions through different means, often by buffing the target with a lifesteal effect. They are more commonly support than healer, but they are more than capable for both. Dark version of divinites.
Usable Weapons: Staves, Daggers, Tomes (Light, Dark)
Armor Class: Cloth
Fiends – Bruiser, Melee, non-mounted
The Dark side’s alamites. They serve virtually the same role, but often have a more sadistic feel to them. They are known to have the same side effect as Cultists, from doing more damage, to having recoil.
Usable Weapons: Daggers, Rapiers, Maces
Armor Class: ClothàLeather
Starting Location
1. The Desert of Khur
2. The Forests of Malin
3. The Plains of Pavilion and Necropolis
4. The Dragon’s Teeth
5. The Aerie
As a final note, Primary Affinities will be kept confidential.
PS. You can choose the gender of your character.

Re: Interactive Story: Collapse
So, I'm interested, but I want to know where to go for certain classes. Is that strictly classified?

Re: Interactive Story: Collapse
It's fairly logical. Think in terms of affinities.

Re: Interactive Story: Collapse
As unfortunate as it is to say, I'm not sure I have the time to do this. However, I may write a story with similar intent to Call of the Nomad, for those of you who read it. I'd need some inspiration though.

I try not to post about irrelevant shit on 1+ year old topics. If you think posts like this get you your "crown" back, you must not derive a whole lot of sarisfaction from life.
