We tried being a legitimate forum and it just didn't work. The environment, albeit chaotic when it comes to discussion, is a lot more relaxed. Ironically enough, I feel like we have less serious flaming than we did back when we tried to be really orderly. I still feel like if someone wanted to create a thread for serious discussion that it would stay on topic (such as some sort of debate/news issue), and I would personally take steps to moderate it to keep it on topic. For threads like these though, I really don't mind as long as people are talking to each other (except for serious rule breaking). After all, chat can't fulfill that purpose, and if we made a chat thread, we wouldn't likely get posts in much else (even less than now).

Of course, new people are still and always will be welcomed. They just need to come in expecting something way, WAY more lax than a normal forum. I'd say that's still better than your typical forum full of attention whores, passive aggressiveness, strict staff, drama, bronies, etc.

Of course, if by some miracle we became way more active and enough members wanted it, we could go back to the way it was and essentially build staff back up if we really needed to, since I don't see Flash and Saf around that much anymore.

I do feel like a lot of people have been leaving this place behind, both staff and member wise. So I guess that means there are people left over that care of this site, no matter what Evan anyone says. It'd be nice to tone it down on the gay porn though. Insistent bothering is what really rustles my jimmies, really. But I guess that's what we consider long time friendship and relaxation on has felt on this site for years. Does that sound right?

I don't feel like we've been left behind since we were the ones here in the first place, so much as Nightmare has become something else altogether. There was a period where we had absolutely nada, and I can see why people left because of that. But look at this now. Look at how much activity we've had the past couple days compared to before. I can't explain it well, but it just seems to work, if not only for us.

As for the other stuff, like I said if some serious argument happened or the thread went on a completely different tangent from post one, I'd (most likely) do something about it. But I'd say we're so used to each other that we know when we're being serious and when we're not.

If new people came, I'd make sure that they knew we're actually friendly and stuff before being too relaxed on them. Kinda like if you start talking to a group of people you've never seen before, and all the sudden everyone is teasing you. You probably wouldn't be sure if it was in a friendly way or if they were actually criticizing you. You gotta be friendly and all that so that they know you're not a dick, and then if you get closer you can be freer with what you say. And then there are times like this thread where someone can see that we don't actually all hate each other.

Other people aren't interested in the community aspect and might just want discussion though, and that's fine too. They're just gonna have to get used to seeing the same people 99% of the time.

Sounds about right for us. I just honestly like forum format a lot. You're not forced to only have 1 or whatever other number of people to talk with, and something you said can be found in post form a lot easier than something that rapidly updates like other social media.

Maybe one of the reasons that it's underused here (and consequently get less new members) is because more people prefer chat based interaction like skype and showdown? Instant gratification in someone immediately responding?
