Mainstream Anime

Yes. As the title suggests, this is about "mainstream" anime. Examples are Naruto, Bleach, Death Note, One Piece, etc. etc. Anything, basically, that has or is being aired in Shonen Jump magazine.

I personally adore these anime/manga. I don't know about anyone else, but in my opinion, the mentioned animes are really cool. And I hate to be a hipster, but I liked Naruto and Bleach before they were cool. So nyeh.

Yeah. That's basically it. Let me know what you think about these animes/mangas. Give me some other titles as well. But again: Just because a bunch of fucking people and weeaboos like them doesn't mean that they are at all bad.

Death note is amazing. I don't like the other anime you mentioned though.

While the fanbases for most of these anime are terrible (Naruto and Bleach especially), most large followings of things do have a fairly bad fanbase, and they probably aren't even half the reason in most people's minds as to why the show is hated. I don't want this to turn into a huge hate/argument thread about entry level anime since we've already had that, but there are far more reasons to dislike those anime past the fanbase.

Other titles to add to the "mainstream" list would be Full Metal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, Code Geass and the Dragon Ball series. Most other anime that aired on Toonami/Adult Swim for a long time can also be considered entry level. However, an anime does not automatically become bad because it's entry level. Usually the problem is that they can appeal to a wide audience (shonen appealing to males who like action and such), and then the show may suffer in certain areas for it.

Dragon Ball makes me nostalgia so hard.

But it was pretty bad.

I've heard Cowboy Bebop was really good, have no idea what it's about though.

Dragon Ball > Dragon Ball Z, but over all, the same basic concept and plot was repeated over and over and over again. The hero, usually Goku, saves [insert location/people here] by killing the main villain. Death also has no real consequence that I remember, as you can be revived by Shenron, so any feelings or reactions based on that are dimmed and/or eradicated simply because it does not mean anything anymore.

Shonen usually has fairly bad plot and really stupid character development, and the battles are typically the same shit over and over again.

Shonen is fun. But only fun if you're not really looking for complete depth. Death Note is great when you first start out on anime, but when I started watching more shows, I really started not liking plot compared to other psychological thrillers for example (Higurashi, Future Diary, etc.)
