My Ice Cream - a NU RMT featuring Vanilluxe
Hello, ladies and gentlemen. I've decided to run through the teambuilding process that I use when I make teams. I first select a starting point. And I kinda wanted to use a Pokemon for this, as opposed to an idea, such as Weather. My choice, surprisingly, was Vanilluxe.
Ever since release, people have been like OMGWTFICECREAMPOGEYMANZZ. I thought that the idea was pretty kick-ass. And it's pretty kawaii, so it's a win for everyone. Not to mention a sky-high Sp. Attack stat. Also, despite Smogon saying otherwise, it is very diverse- capable of functioning as a Special Attacker, a regular Attacker, and a Bulky
(Normal or Special) Attacker. I will have him functioning as a Mixed Attacker, due to access to Ice Shard and other STAB options, plus Water Pulse and Hidden Power.
So, since this thing has the worst defensive type in the game, we're going to need some support. It is weak to Fighting, so we're going to need some insurance. I choose to go with Musharna, as it is a maternal Pokemon and is very pretty. And it is pro.

Blue Ganja (Musharna) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Synchronize
EVs: 240 HP / 28 Def / 240 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Psychic
- Moonlight
- Thunder Wave
- Hidden Power [Bug]
This thing is pretty crazy. It APPARENTLY OHKOs Absol on the switch with HP Bug, but I haven't seen one recently. Psychic is a very nice STAB that does at least 30% to things that don't resist it. It repels most Fighting types, such as Machoke (Gurdurr anyone?). Or that are things like Sawsbuck. Thunder Wave takes care of the latter Pokemon in it's sad attempt at sweeping, or any other for that matter. Moonlight is for sustain.
So now we're pretty Synergized. However, Musharna has both a Bug and a Dark weakness. I liked Weezing in 4th Gen, as it managed to wall EVERYTHING. So I am going to implement it. Props to the former Gravekeeper for the song title.
Cyanide (Weezing) (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
- Sludge Bomb
- Clear Smog
You don't even need Defense investment in Musharna. Weezing is mega-powerful. Like srs. Will-O-Wisp stops sweepers from even moving, while Clear Smog eliminates any chance of them returning from the depths of despair. Pain Split is in case Weezing gets caught by something. Sludge Bomb is a powerful and reliable STAB.
So we are pretty good. Weezing's weaknesses are covered by Musharna. They're perfect together. However, we have a few uncovered weaknesses of Vanilluxe's. One of which is the common Rock typing. So I have implemented something that is built to last. Enter Lairon.
Reptar (Lairon) (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Rock Head
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Head Smash
- Earthquake
- Roar
This thing has ridiculously bad typing with regards to 4x super effective attacks. However, it is made to last with a gargantuan Defense stat, a boost-able Sp. Defense stat, and respectable HP. Also, it has access to an EdgeQuake-esque movepool, which works out nicely coverage-wise. It has Roar for Hazing. And Stealth Rock is for..... Stealth Rock. 'Nuffsed.
Now, that adds another Fighting weakness to our pool. However, we needn't worry, as Fighting is covered pretty heavily. NOW, let's move onto our sweepers, since we've completed a bit of a defensive core.
I like Butterfree. I've always liked it, ever since Generation 1. It recently obtained Quiver Dance, which is it's main steroid in addition to a bulker-upper. Butterfree is weak to Rock, but Stealth Rock is not omnipresent in NU, so meh.
Diane (Butterfree) (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Compoundeyes
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Sleep Powder
- Quiver Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Hidden Power [Ground]
This adds to YET ANOTHER Fighting core. Sleep Powder is fo' de powa of de Dahk side. Quiver Dance is for boosting, obviously. Bug Buzz is a really powerful STAB, while HP Ground covers stuff that isn't already hit. I prefer Compoundeyes over Tinted Lens, as Sleep Powder needs all of the Accuracy that it can get. Life Orb over Leftovers for that extra OOMPH, Leftovers over Life Orb for that extra HP recovery while you're setting up.
I want a Pokemon that is just.... good. Something that is fast and that hits everything. A fair anti-Lead. I want a Cinccino. Credit to Evan for the name and the set.
Pornstar (Cinccino) (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Skill Link
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Tail Slap
- Bullet Seed
- Flail
- Wake-Up Slap
This thing is "CRA'" (pronounced "cray"). Tail Slap hits everything except for Rock and Steel, while W-US managed to cover both of them. If you get knocked down to low Health, Focus Sash and Flail are an impossible good combination, capable of destroying even somewhat tanky Pokemon. Soften them up, put them down.
Alright, ladies and gentlemen. TIME FOR THE GRAND FINALE. This Pokemon is what we based the team around. Hopefully, this will give a clean sweep after the rest of the team is done setting up and knocking down. This. Is. VANILLUXE.
SnoWite (Vanilluxe) (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Weak Armor
EVs: 80 Atk / 176 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Ice Shard
- Ice Beam
- Taunt
- Signal Beam
Vanilluxe is so good. Like, legitimately. Signal Beam rids the game of the (apparently) ever-present Absol and some of those Bulky Grasses like Tangela. However, you'd probably want to Ice Beam the Grasses, as STAB + Higher BP = Win. Taunt is to prevent set-up or something like Leech Seed to shit on you late game. Ice Shard cleans up anything that is weak to it and anything with remotely low HP. It is the new frontier.
Thank you for looking at my RMT. Rate, Comment, Test, Steal? I want you guys to win. So thanks for reading! Have a great day.

You have a HUGE weakness to common fire types in NU.
Any of them can switch on in Vannluxe, fire blast, and get out. You don't have a fire resist.

I don't put Vanilluxe in until I know for a fact that it can kill at least one thing.

There are very few rocks in NU. 'Nuffsed.
I suppose that I could implement Rapid Spin somehow, but it just isn't worth it, as there are typically Ghosts running around the Meta. And I don't feel like wasting a turn or a Pokemon for the sole purpose of saving a little bit of another.

Re: My Ice Cream - a NU RMT featuring Vanilluxe
Hi Korasi,
I noticed you have 3 pokemon weak to fighting (lairon, cinccino, vanilluxe). Obviously, this is a problem, and I hope you solve it quickly if you have not already. I know you have 2 pokemon not weak to fighting, that is butterfree and musharna. Aside from musharna, butterfree is very, very frail, and let's not forgot that fighting types usually carry diverse moves, such as rock and dark types. Your butterfree, furthermore, has nothing to OHKO a fighting type, such as air slash or any other flying/ psychic move. Musharna is possibly one of the slowest pokemon in the game, and unless it sets up trick room, it will be prone to a OHKO by a dark type move.
Thanks for reading, and I hope this helps! Please comment on this and/or point out any wrongs there may be in this critique.
Sincerely,
Anubis

My thought process with the Fighting weaknesses, Musharna walls them almost completely, and can OHKO with Psychic unless they are Sturdy or incredibly bulky. This team got to 57 on the ladder.
