Underrated sets by Flash

I decided to do this new thing, called Underrated sets.


When playing the ladder, there are a few things that can disappoint me, fighting the same team, with the same move sets, with the same style.

However, people will sometimes become shocked when they lose to a non-meta threat that can actually wall or break their whole team. These sets, are usually the ones that rise higher than average on the ladder when used correctly.

This one will be an underrated Dragonite set.

EVs: 236 HP / 180 SDef / 92 Def
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Heal Bell
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Roost

Maximizing special defense, while adding defense, this is a living hell for stall teams. As the last Pokemon out, this is almost impossible to take down. No multiscale? It's illegal. However, even if it were legal, Inner Focus let's you set-up on Special Defensive Jirachi. Steel types can't kill this guy, unless you're fighting a Metagross with Ice Punch, the only sure fire counter to this guy. Dragonite HATES status, so Heal Bell gives it a almost full Immunity to it. Also a decent support, granted SR is off the field. Dragon Claw's high PP let's it beat all Physical walls, wall breaking them at +6.

EVS in defenses can be switched to fit team needs. Magnezone is a great support, as well as strong Physical attackers, in tandem with his wall breaking prowess. A good thing to note, if it doesn't do over 50%, you can set up on whoever attacked you.

You're using Inner Focus. That doesn't call for "Hard to Kill".

You're underestimating Dragonite's bulk without Multiscale. Multiscale is illegal with Heal Bell, which is why I don't use it.

The only Pokemon that can land an OHKO on this Dragonite with HP Ice would be Specs Jolteon (Life orb does 72-83%) and Kyurem (why you leaving Dnite on the field without a DD anyway)

The set aims to be similar to Reuniclus, having huge amounts of sustain and turning many Pokemon into pure set up fodder. It also turns into a tank for switching in on Fire, Water, and Grass moves, and a Cleric, something Reuniclus cannot do.

Why don't I just use tanky Dragonite with Earthquake?

Because this set also alleviates Dragonite's #1 weak (other than ice and scarf Haxorus), Status.

As you can see in the video, this Dragonite is an amazing stall breaker.

Multiscale isn't the only asset of it's bulk you know, it's defenses, 91/95/100, are nothing to be ignored.

HP Ice from the likes of Landorus (45%-53%), Ice Beam from defensive Politoed,(49%-59%), and ALL Ice Shard from Donphan (Adamant 252 does 45%-53%), all do less than 75%, letting Dragonite Dragon dance once, Roost to reduce the next Ice move by 50% (Loses flying typing), and proceed to set-up.

Anything else you stay in on (pretty much all dragon moves even the bulkiest dragons won't stay in on/STAB Ice moves) you shouldn't be in there in the first place.

Korasi, the issue with your thought process is, your going at Dragonite as a blatantly offensive Pokemon. This set, however, attempts to utilize both that, and his abilities as a cleric. Thought it may not be overly refined, and it may get countered, but most of the threats you named are gone relatively early in the game, or are fairly easy to get rid of with proper priority and team coverage.

tl;dr: Not always a all out sweeper bre.
