Nightmare Civil War

The Nightmare Civil War begins Monday! The war is a system of battles where, unlike a tournament, there are no set matches, and members participate in teams. There will be two teams, team Lugia and team Ho-oh. The members who sign up will be placed into the teams randomly. If you are in Team Lugia, you may challange any member of Team Ho-oh a maximum of three times. Instead of best 2/3 to determine matches as in a tournament, points are awarded for the winner of each separate fight. For example, if a Lugia player challenges a Ho-oh contestant 3 times, and the Lugia participant wins one and Ho-oh wins two, Team Lugia gains 1 point, and Team Ho-oh gains 2 points. The team whose members gain the most amount of points will win!

This setup eliminates individual matches from delaying the progress of the whole war.


The Setup -

For clarification purposes, here is a hypothetical situation involving two teams, called Gold and Purple for the example.

The pokemon stand for usernames/participants.

6 Entrants - Flygon, Manetric, Magnezone, Houndoom, Ursaring, Tyranitar

Divided into 2 teams (randomly)-

Purple -
- Flygon
- Magnezone
- Houndoom

Gold
- Manetric
- Ursaring
- Tyranitar


Say Flygon fights Manetric three times, winning all of them. Flygon then battles ursaring 3 times, winning twice, then losing once. Lastly, Flygon fights Tyranitar twice, wins once, then loses once. Flygon will gain a point from each win (3+2+1=6). Flygon has gained six points for its team.

Then, Magnezone fights manetric twice, loses both and fights no one else. Magnezone has not gained any points but has not lost any. However, losing battles is detrimental to the team because it allows the other team to gain points.

Houndoom fights Tyranitar twice, and wins one, loses one.

If these were the only fights, purple will have seven points (6 from Flygon, 1 Houndoom, 0 from Magnezone) and gold will have six points (Manetric 2, Tyranitar 2, Ursaring 1). The winners of the contest would be the team with the most points. Purple would be the winner, even if Magnezone lost all of its fights.

Each person should keep a record of how many points they have, which are added at the end.

Battle Rules -

To keep battles shorter and to enable more people to battle when there is a limited period of time, all battles will be 3v3 in in the Random Battle Style. This means that all pokemon are Level 50. You will make a team with six pokemon, but in the team preview mode, you will select 3 to fight with. This makes fighting the same person multiple times more variable. An easy way to make sure your team is acceptable is to go on the PO server and attempt to go in the "Random Battle" tier. If you can battle in that tier, your team is acceptable. However, the PO tier may or may not have an item clause. If you are not accepted into the tier because of this issue, your team is still acceptable.



Signups end when 12 enter, or after Monday the 18th. If there is an odd number of participants, the war will not be affected because of the point system. Late entrants are allowed, so if you can't make your team by Monday, don't panic! The Civil War will last for two weeks, until the 2nd of July.

The tournament is Pokemon Online. You may fight one another on DS if both parties consent, but please follow all rules, and any entrant must have a Pokemon Online team.

If possible, it would be nice to be able to temporarily change the colors of the participants based on their team.

The Civil War is underway! Late entrants are allowed due to the setup, and will be placed onto the team with less players or randomly placed if the numbers are exactly equal. If you wish to drop out of the war, make a second post, but your matches and points will not be canceled.
