How strong is the river? Would it be possible to, say, place some large rocks to dam the river, or would it be useless?

the river current is pretty strong, strong enough to sweep you off your feet, and its pretty deep. but not strong enough to move large rocks very much.

In that case, I'll gather some large rocks to slow the flow of the river.
